December 21, 2009
Dear colleagues,
I am looking forward to the holidays. It’s been a challenging year! As I catch up with friends and acquaintances, I’ve learned that my own experience is not unique: 2009 has required more endurance, perseverance, creativity, energy and faith than many other years. It has provided meager rewards for some, great rewards for others, and rewards not yet clear for others.
Connection is clearly a common thread through our stories, mine included. The uncertainties of the economy have presented opportunities (whether welcome or not!) to reconnect with people, to meet new people and to see that we are not alone. I feel so fortunate to have experienced great warmth, openness and generosity in my interactions with others, many of whom I was meeting for the first time.
I am thankful for our wonderful ODNNY community. You bring your hearts and minds to our programs and events, and as a result you have helped create a Network where I have experienced and observed significant learning, sharing and connection.
The year’s end provides a great opportunity to pause, reflect and recharge as we head into 2010. My hope for each of us is that we will give ourselves the gift of seeing what’s possible for ourselves and our world and that we take steps toward it. Maybe it’s helping to make a family holiday gathering more harmonious or bringing a smile to someone who is delighted to hear from you. Or maybe you will contribute to an interaction, initiative or venture that will bring positive change to an individual, organization or community.
I wish each of you a joyful holiday season and I look forward to connecting with you in 2010.
Peace,
Annie Merkle
