2013-2014 Program Year Intro

September 4, 2013

Dear ODNNY Members and Colleagues,

It's that time of year again, the beginning of ODNNY's programming year which runs from September through June/July. We are excited about the year ahead and will be kicking it off with our initial program on September 30th.

The year ahead is going to be filled with excitement, development, and change. For those of you who are not change managers who love change, don't fear! Our changes will be good for our members and OD community.

First, let's discuss what's exciting. ODNNY will be launching our new mentoring program! After months of strategizing and collaboration, we have completely revamped our mentoring program. We will be combining the launch of our new mentoring program September 30th along with the launch of our 2013-2014 program year. The program will be held in partnership with Milano The New School of International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy and is available for registration on our website.

Mentoring is exciting as it is a valuable development tool for individuals and organizations. However, it is often implemented poorly and under-utilized. We recognize its value as do many of our members as reflected by questions about mentoring and requests for it. Earlier this year, Dora Graye and I embarked on a complete rethinking of ODNNY's mentoring program and what it means for ODNNY, our members, and the OD community. We see it as a way to further build our OD community by supporting our members in their development.

Speaking of development, our programming committee led by Jill Logan and Cathy Joseph is hard at work putting together our monthly programs. Our programs this year will continue to offer a variety of current topics and learning opportunities for your development. Stay tuned for the announcement of our initial 2013-2014 program offerings.

That brings me to change and we have quite a few changes this year!

As many of you know, we lost the corporate sponsor who provided space for our monthly programs. With that came increased costs and a need to revisit our membership offerings and program fees. We decided to keep our individual and student membership fees the same, increase our program fees, and offer a variety of group memberships. The non-member fee to attend a monthly program is $35 with advanced registration and $45 at the door effective September 1, 2013, up from $25 and $35, respectively. All members will continue to receive free attendance to monthly programs during their membership.

We have created a number of group memberships with additional benefits for corporations, non-profits, academic organizations, and self-organized groups. Click here to learn more about all our membership offerings. The new memberships for corporate and non-profit organizations gives them additional flexibility through a choice of either naming 10 individuals to the membership or receiving 40 event vouchers (discount codes) that they utilize for attendance at our monthly programs. You may contact Elaine Mason, AJ Stone, or me with any questions regarding memberships.

Another change that you can look forward to is a refresh of the website and content. It's been a few years since the development and launch of our current website. We recognize it is past time for some updates. Cristina DiGiacomo, our Marketing Chair, will be leading our thinking around what is most meaningful for our members.

It is hard to believe it was four years ago I joined the board to develop and manage a new website. Now that I've stepped into the role of President, previously held by Mark Berns, we need to find another 'techy' to manage the administration of our website. If you have website administrative knowledge and are interested in helping build our ODNNY community, please let me know!

Finally, I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the team of board and committee members, past and present. Without them, there would be no ODNNY or monthly programs. They are the backbone of this great community, the glue that keeps us together, and the oil that keeps us working smoothly. Thank you! If you see a member of the ODNNY team, past or present (list of 2012-2013 volunteers), please extend your thanks as their volunteering of their time, knowledge, and so much more is what makes this organization great. If you would like to volunteer to help continue the legacy of ODNNY, please contact me or any of the board members.

I hope you'll join us at an event or in membership as we continue to enhance the OD community in the New York area!

All the best,

Suzanne L Young

President, ODNNY
